President's Honors Eclipses $4.5 Million in Cumulative Giving Since 2012

Hundreds joined together at MNU's Cook Center to raise Money for scholarships

President's Honors, MNU's premier fundraising gala for student scholarships, had another successful evening April 12, 2019, when a total of $611,366 was raised through sponsorships, bids and gifts. This brings the total amount raised for President’s Honors over the last eight years to more than $4.5 million.

Longtime university friends, Allen and Madeline Tollefson, were honored with MNU’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The Tollefsons own AG Tollefson & Co. and they exposed generations of MNU students to Work and Witness projects around the world. They also have impacted nonprofits, Christian schools, and compassionate ministry centers locally and globally over the past 40 years. They are members of the Bright Futures Campaign Executive Committee and strong advocates for MNU students.

“Over the years, this extraordinary couple has shared a journey that has touched the hearts and lives of many throughout the world as they lived out God’s calling on their lives in very tangible ways,” says Dr. Jon North, MNU vice president for university advancement. “Their lives have been characterized by their sacrifice, service to others, a spirit of quiet generosity, and a deep desire to share the transforming good news of Jesus Christ.”

Honorary Co-Chairs for the event were Drs. Frank (’73) and Sue (Potter ’75) Moore. Frank serves as general editor for the Church of the Nazarene, while Sue is a professor at Olivet Nazarene University.

One of the highlights of the evening involved a special appeal to launch the Women Equipped – Leadership Education and Development (WE LEAD) program. Several donors stepped up to raise $10,000, which was matched by Kansas City-based Husch Blackwell.

The evening ended with the President’s Scholarship Challenge when brisk bidding provided additional scholarship dollars for students. The date for the 2020 President's Honors will be Friday, April 3, 2020.

“The President’s Honors gala has become an MNU tradition and is envied by other institutions for its significant contribution to student scholarships,” says Dr. David Spittal, MNU president. “There are few events of this type that achieve this level of support and we are blessed and grateful for all who assisted and participated.”
