SERVEteams Assist Drexel Church After Flooding

Justin Barnes, a junior English and Intercultural Studies major from Olathe at MNU is lending his help this summer at Drexel, Missouri’s Victory Fellowship church. The small church is between pastors and has provided a real-world opportunity for many MNU ministry students. Each Sunday students have taught Sunday School, provided worship music and preached at the church. It’s a partnership that has helped both students and the congregation.  So when Barnes let others at MNU know that recently flooding had damaged the church, MNU’s SERVEteams, Voices of Praise and Squad 66, jumped in to help.

SERVEteam members and others gathered in Drexel, Missouri to help Victory Fellowship after floodwaters damaged the church.

MNU SERVEteams travel the Midwest assisting at camps, churches and other events as well as performing concerts and representing MNU. About 20 SERVEteam members, sponsors and other volunteers spent last Saturday taking down the soggy drywall, painting and cleaning at Victory Fellowship.

Students painted the outside of the church, repaired flood damage in the basement and cleaned the parsonage so it can be rented.

On Sunday the teams attended the church and provided music and preaching. Congregants celebrated the work accomplished with a church picnic at the community park. Squad 66 member, Alayna Elstrom, says there’s more work to do at the Drexel church. Persons interested in lending a hand should contact MNU Church Relations at 913.971.3356.

Hugs all around from the congregants for students who helped repair their church.
