Student's Passion to Welcome Others Becomes Booming Business

Andrew (Drew) Thornton is a veteran, an MNU student in the bachelor's degree completion program, and a successful entrepreneur. His latest business is the Downtown Coffee House in Shawnee, Kansas. Opening in April of this year, the coffee house has been received by the community with enthusiasm. He's also begun marketing his roasted coffee beans in several locations including HyVee grocery stores. The business is gaining attention along with Thornton's philanthropic efforts. Just this week The Kansas City Star, 41 Action News and Fox 4 have runs stories on his efforts. Read The Kansas City Star's story here.

This Friday, November 13, a fundraising dinner and auction will be held at Downtown Coffee House, 11101 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, from 6 to 10 p.m. The event supports efforts to create a permanent home for VFW Post 10552 in Shawnee as well as help fund the post's community service efforts which include a scholarship program and other charitable donations. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children. Barbeque on the menu is provided by local Me-Me-K's. A raffle, auction, live music and games will also entertain attendees.

Like many of his classmates at MNU, Thornton has a heart for others and their needs. The Downtown Coffee House is his passion to serve.
