This year for our Passion to Serve Project, we’ll be doing life with people right here in Kansas City!

MidAmerica Nazarene University is partnering with the Hope Center KC in downtown Kansas City, in their mission of “developing healthy communities where the vulnerable can have hope and flourish.” We are sending student volunteers to the Hope Center EVERY Friday from 3-5pm to help with The Hope Center’s after school program called S.A.Y. Yes!

The Hope Center KC started the only elementary school in their neighborhood, The Hope Leadership Academy Charter School, and this after school program utilizes volunteers to help kids with homework, Bible studies, and provides a safe space for a couple of hours after school. Through our Passion to Serve Project, MNU will build relationships with the Hope Center KC kids through this after school program!

TWO GOALS

• 500+ total volunteer hours from MNU students, staff, and faculty volunteering with The Hope Center throughout the academic year.
  • Volunteer opportunities include the S.A.Y. Yes! program every Friday
  • Several one-time events that MNU will host at The Hope Center and on the MNU campus.
• $10,000 to send 50 kids from The Hope Center to Kids Across America (KAA) camp during the summer of 2019.
  • Most kids that attend the Hope Leadership Academy Charter School cannot afford to go to camp over summer break, and we highly value the opportunities and love that kids are exposed to at camps like KAA.
