MNU offers three tracks leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing:
Four-year basic baccalaureate program
This is the basic program designed to accommodate the majority of students seeking a BSN degree.
Accelerated basic baccalaureate program
Through use of a very intensive summer program, this option is designed to accommodate highly qualified students who have a previous college degree, experience as LPNs or paramedics, or those who simply want to complete their education more rapidly for a variety of reasons.
RN to BSN program for RNs
The RN to BSN completion option is a program for those who are already licensed Registered Nurses who have completed a diploma in nursing or an Associate Degree in Nursing. The RN to BSN program provides an opportunity for RNs to complete the nursing core requirements for the BSN degree in one calendar year.
RN to BSN students meet the same general core requirements as the traditional BSN nursing students. RN to BSN program nursing core courses are offered one day a week in five week modules.
Nursing
Nursing is an art;
and if it is to be made an art,
it requires as exclusive a devotion,
as hard a preparation,
as any painter's or sculptor's work;
for what is the having to do with
dead canvas or cold marble,
compared with having to do with the
living body - the temple of God's spirit?
It is one of the Fine Arts;
I had almost said
the finest of the Fine Arts
~ Florence Nightingale
This quote from Florence Nightingale artfully expresses what the Division of Nursing faculty believe about nursing as a professional practice. We see nursing as a vocation of ministry to people; one that requires scientifically-based knowledge and skill to be provided in caring and artistic ways. Most people who enter the field of nursing are probably motivated by the desire to care for people, and it is true that as a nurse you will have a tremendous impact on the lives of those you serve. The Division of Nursing at MidAmerica Nazarene University desires to prepare you to meet the healthcare challenges of a changing world by providing you with opportunities to learn the science of nursing and to develop your own unique style, or art, of nursing.
MidAmerica's nursing program is approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nurse Education. The division works closely with many healthcare agencies including Olathe Medical Center, Shawnee Mission Medical Center, the Visiting Nurse Association, Children's Mercy Hospital, the University of Kansas Hospital, and the Kansas City Rescue Mission.
Thank you for browsing our web site. We hope the various pages give you a glimpse of life as a nursing student at MidAmerica Nazarene University. Please e-mail me if you would like to set up a personal appointment.
