The top three winners of the highly coveted Scholarship Challenge award were recently announced by MNU Provost Mary Jones, PhD. The winners are:
- Emma Carter, Lone Tree, Colorado; biology
- Jentry Muck, Olathe, Kansas; biology and chemistry
- Becca White, Peoria, Illinois; nursing
Each year high-achieving high school seniors are invited to compete for one of three prestigious full-tuition scholarships in the Scholarship Challenge. Held Jan. 19 and 20, the 52 candidates submitted essays, portfolios and recommendations and were interviewed by faculty in the competition. More than 30 faculty evaluated submissions, interviewed and presented to the applicants.
Always a tight competition between remarkable students, the event highlights the best and brightest potential Pioneers. “It was a pleasure to meet these accomplished students,” Jones said. “Their academic success and volunteer efforts are not only exceptional, they are heartwarming. We hope to see many of them excel at MNU.”
Derry Ebert, associate vice president and dean for traditional enrollment, said “Every one of these students would be a great addition to the MNU community. I hope they will all choose to become Pioneers.”
In addition to awards won by these three winners, the top-10 runners-up will each receive $2,000 in scholarship monies, and those who did not place will receive $1,000 in academic funds, in addition to any existing financial aid.
Ebert says a variety of financial aid is still available for the fall 2018 semester. For more information, visit MNU’s financial aid web site.
