Seven-year total over $3.9 million.

Our students are grateful.

President's Honors, MNU's premier fundraising gala for student scholarships, had another successful evening April 13, 2018. Over $691,000 was raised through sponsorships, bids and gifts. This brings the total amount raised for President’s Honors over the last seven years to more than $3.9 million.

Board of Trustees member and former Chair, Dr. Larry McIntire, and his wife, Donna, were honored with MNU’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The McIntires are longtime supporters of the university and the Church of the Nazarene. Additionally, Larry was instrumental in bringing Missouri’s first new medical school in 40 years to the Joplin area. Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCU-COM) opened the Farber-McIntire Campus in Joplin in 2017.

“Small town America needs doctors,” Larry says. “The best way to get them is to train them here.”

Larry also helped MNU create a partnership with KCU-COM which provides early admission to medical school for qualifying students.

Honorary Co-Chairs for the event were Ervin (’81) and Fran Cash. Ervin serves as President & CEO of SloanLED in Ventura, California. Fran recently retired from an extensive career as a senior software engineer developing CAD/CAM software at Siemens. Currently, she enjoys being a docent at the Reagan Ranch Center in Santa Barbara, California.

The first-ever endowed professorship was announced at the event. Dr. Rion Taylor, professor of biology, was the recipient. The Brent A. and B. Lynette Barkman Endowed Professorship in Science will provide for expenses related to Taylor’s ongoing scholarship, research efforts and instructional support.

The evening ended with the President’s Scholarship Challenge when brisk bidding provided additional scholarship dollars for students. The date for the 2019 President's Honors will be April 12, 2019.
