“Challenge Accepted” was more than the theme at the third annual Education Influencers event April 15, 2026. It was the tone of the room and of the work ahead. MNU is grateful to these inspiring speakers who didn’t just talk about innovation; they modeled it. They challenged, equipped, and energized each participant with bold ideas!
Highlights From Our “Challenge Accepted” Speakers
James Arkell, COO, Loretto Holdings, Halo Ridge and Michael’s WonderWorld
From owning the Mavericks to ideating one of only two fully accessible theme parks in the world, designed so individuals of all abilities can experience joy and belonging, Arkell’s message reminded all that innovation rooted in inclusion can transform entire communities. Tim DeWeese, director, Johnson County Mental Health Center
DeWeese challenged listeners to rethink leadership, not as a title, but as a practice for all. He emphasized being mindful, not mind-full, and of the profound healing power found in authentic human connection.
Dr. Brent Yeager, superintendent, Olathe Public Schools
Dr. Yeager grounded listeners in a sobering reality—only 15% of educators statewide (14% in Johnson County) feel supported by their community. He called on all to shift the narrative and actively champion the teaching profession.
Heather Schoonover, director of community development, Olathe Public Schools
Schoonover highlighted the importance of aligning community resources to better support educators and students—eliminating duplication and maximizing impact. Her challenge was simple and powerful: Why not? Why not fully support educators?
Dr. J. David McClung, world record holder
Dr. McClung inspired each person with his extraordinary journey to Mt. Everest Base Camp at age 82. Facing altitude, weather, health challenges, and more, his story was a testament to grit and perseverance. The parallels to education were clear; challenges are real, but so is our resolve. Challenge accepted.
Special thanks to Dr. LeEtta Felter for her unwavering support of MNU’s School of Education and for helping make the third annual Education Influencer Luncheon such a meaningful success. Her remarkable ability to bring people together and her positive spirit lifts everyone around her.
Deep appreciation to Wallentine Injury Law and Attorney Jerry Wallentine for sponsoring this year’s event and going the extra mile by providing each MNU teacher-candidate table host with a $250 scholarship to offset clinical expenses (because, yes, gas money matters). Thank you for your tangible investment in MNU’s future educators.
