Volunteer

Your connection to the life and mission of the university.

Volunteer Your Time

The connection with your alma mater lasts a lifetime. That’s why you’ll see the phrase “Pioneer for Life” everywhere at MNU. We’re here to help you get more involved in the life and mission of the University—whether your next step is investing your time, talent, treasure, or ties.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Alumni and families of MNU students are in the unique position to help prospective students learn about MNU. Help us reach out to prospective students and newly admitted students and their families along their admissions journey. Whether it’s letting us know about an impressive student we may not have on our radar, attending virtual college fairs or recruitment networking events, writing a note of encouragement, or sharing your knowledge and passion about MNU with an interested student considering your line of work — all of it can be instrumental in a student’s decision to attend MNU.

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per activity

Volunteer Responsibilities

Serve as a representative to our broader network of nearly 30,000 alumni. Council members also serve on one of four working committees: Alumni Networks, Homecoming & Reunions, Communications, and Giving Opportunities. The Council meets twice per year and each committee meets 5-6 times per year to advance the work of the Alumni Engagement team.

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per activity

Volunteer Responsibilities

Have you recently written a book, influential article, or monograph? We want to hear from you! Consider sharing your author journey, the inspiration for your writing, and the content of your recent publication with our campus community. If selected as a presenter, you will work with the Alumni Engagement team and the Mabee Learning Commons staff on timing and logistics of your presentation to a blended campus and community audience.

Time Commitment: 1 hour

Volunteer Responsibilities

You can help to build the MNU network by connecting students and alumni to careers and to one another for the purpose of career development. Those who participate as a Career Connector will provide necessary support toward these development activities and continue to further the strength of the MNU network. Examples include speaking at our Coffee Conversations with young professionals, mentoring a current student or recent graduate, providing current students a job-shadowing experience, serving as a mock interviewer for college seniors as they prepare for career fairs, etc.

You will work with Alumni Engagement staff to find an opportunity that fits your expertise and time commitment.

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per semester (for most opportunities)

Volunteer Responsibilities

Bring your expertise to a classroom at MNU. The Alumni Engagement team and the Center for Career & Workforce Development are working with faculty members across campus to bring learning to life through the experiences of our alumni. Share your career journey with our students, what it took to land your first dream job, how to manage the highs and lows at your company or organization, why mentors are important, and where you find purpose in your everyday work life.

Time Commitment: 45-60 minutes

Volunteer Responsibilities

Do you have your finger on the pulse of your industry? Are you willing to share your insights with university leaders to advance our mission and give us a competitive advantage in the marketplace? If so, then serving on an MNU committee or advisory board might be for you! Your input could shape the future of our curriculum, enable us to make a strategic shift, and/or enhance MNU’s impact, reach, and stature.

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per quarter

Volunteer Responsibilities

Each month, we’ll send you a story prompt and you simply need to respond with a brief reflection, some advice, or a photo (a picture is worth a thousand words, after all). We will also have ongoing/anytime prompts in case you can’t think of a response to our monthly prompts. Since you’re helping us tell our story, we’ll reward you with great MNU swag. The more times you respond, the better the merch.

Time Commitment: 1 hour per month

Volunteer Responsibilities

Help MNU connect with alums residing within a 50-mile radius of strategic cities in our alumni network. Alumni Hubs are designed to gather local alumni to support the university and each other in your professional and personal lives. Hub teams collaborate on local events and activities with the MNU Alumni Engagement Team to enrich the lives of alums currently residing in the Springfield, Wichita, and Denver areas, with plans to expand to other regions soon.

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per month

Volunteer Responsibilities

Play an active role in planning your next class reunion by joining the Reunion Committee. The MNU Alumni Office works with alums like you to make your class reunions memorable for everyone involved. We provide a series of helpful Zoom calls to easily guide you through every step of the process. Committees are ideally comprised of 4-5 people per class.

We provide each class with the following resources to help the Reunion Host succeed:

  • Reserved Room
  • Multi-channel promotions
  • Yearbooks on display
  • Name tags
  • Class photo
  • Zoom room (for those who can’t attend in person)
  • Program template for activities
  • Class page on Facebook
  • Swag package

Time Commitment: 1 hour per month (February-October)

Volunteer Responsibilities

Help us spread the news about what’s happening on the MNU campus or throughout our alumni network. Social ambassadors use their personal social networks on Facebook, Instagram, and/or LinkedIn to amplify the University’s social channels to create broader visibility, spread awareness, and foster a greater sense of Pioneer Pride. In short, share our posts, comment and like our posts, and engage with others in positive ways about topics related to MNU.

Time Commitment: 1 hour per month

Volunteer Responsibilities

Wednesdays on MNU’s campus are reserved for experiential learning. Faculty members work to give their students hands-on learning opportunities in their field (or a parallel field) of study. As a WIRED Wednesday presenter, you would provide students with a glimpse into your career and a real-world project they could work on individually or in groups. As a host, you would invite faculty and students to your workplace in the Kansas City area, where they would learn more about your industry and possibly work on a project in a real-world environment.

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours

Lifetime Philanthropic Engagement

MNU relies on the generosity of alumni and friends to provide our students with scholarship support, recruit and retain great professors, present leading-edge instructional technology, and offer formative experiences beyond the classroom. Your support impacts everyone and everything on campus.

But consider what supporting MNU does for you, as well. First, living generously helps you lead a longer, healthier life. It brings you joy. Next, it allows you to build, protect, and sustain something for the benefit of future generations — many of whom you will never meet. Your investment helps to build the Kingdom of God and impacts communities for Christ every time MNU unleashes its graduates on the world. Lastly, you become a stakeholder in MNU’s mission, helping us fuel the dreams of our students.

Legacy Circle Bricks

Leave your mark at MNU! Consider purchasing a brick for the Legacy Circle, which is located at the center of the Campus Mall and is lined with hundreds of bricks featuring the names of alumni and long-time faculty and staff. Freshmen begin their MNU journey with a special ceremony at the Legacy Circle and culminate their experience prior to graduation at this same location. Walking along the brick path—engraved with the names of so many Pioneers who came before them—is a great reminder of the rich heritage these new graduates now enjoy.

Alumni Hubs

Alumni Hubs are established by the Alumni Council, which annually explores the development of a Hub anywhere in the United States where 50 or more alumni reside within a 50-mile radius of each other.

Hubs exist to provide annual programming that addresses the social, professional, and spiritual needs and interests of local alumni residing outside the Kansas City area and to advance the mission, stature, and impact of the University, whether through prayer, recruitment of new students, technical expertise, and/or financial support.

Hubs are governed by the Alumni Council and membership is available to those who are MNU alumni and reside within the 50-mile radius of an established hub. They have the autonomy to create their own management structure, provided the structure is approved in advance by the Council and each leadership team member signs and acknowledges that they will abide by the documented guidelines established by the Council.

Wichita, KS

The Wichita Hub was established in 2021. It serves 668 alumni (including 359 graduates) within a 50-mile radius of the city. Connect with the Wichita leadership team here.

Springfield, MO

The Springfield Hub was established in 2021. It serves 416 alumni (including 186 graduates) within a 50-mile radius of the city. Connect with the Springfield leadership team here.

Denver, CO

The Denver Hub was established in 2023. It serves 427 alumni (including 251 graduates) within a 50-mile radius of the city. Connect with the Denver leadership team here.

Hire a Pioneer

One of the greatest benefits of being a Pioneer is our alumni network willing to hire our graduates or to help them find effective employment opportunities.

Here are a few of the ways you can participate in both of these career-driven channels:

Encourage your company to exhibit at career fairs on campus. We host career fairs each semester. Contact the MNU Office for Career & Workforce Development to learn more.

Join our growing list of alumni mentoring an MNU junior or senior. Help students understand the steps they need to take to be career-ready, including building their resumes the right way, preparing for interviews, and offering them opportunities to shadow at your workplace. Sign up to be a mentor.

Work with our professors in strategic departments to participate in an evening of mock interviews with current students, asking the types of questions they might encounter from your HR department or your industry. Sign up to be a mock interviewer.

Join us for an intimate hour-long, ask-me-anything evening conversation over coffee with young professionals. Share how you got your current role and what it took to get there. Talk about some of the ups and downs you faced to get this position. Answer any questions the alumni gathered for the conversation may pose. Sign up to lead a Coffee Conversation.

Give Crypto

Why Do We Accept Cryptocurrency Donations?

MidAmerica Nazarene University Foundation recognizes the growing significance of cryptocurrency in today’s economy. Donors may find it beneficial to make cryptocurrency contributions and should consult their tax advisor regarding how these donations may fit into their tax strategy.

Why Donate Cryptocurrency?

For donors in the United States, the IRS has classified cryptocurrency as a form of property. This means that when you donate Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, such as the MNU Foundation, you may be required to pay capital gains tax on donated cryptocurrency and still be able to claim a deduction for your gift. Please consult your tax advisor for more information.

MidAmerica Nazarene University Foundation Gift Acceptance Requirements

In accordance with the MNU Foundation Gift Acceptance Policy, all contributions of cryptocurrency are immediately converted to cash upon receipt and cannot be refunded for any reason. While we are happy to honor requests for public anonymity, donors must identify themselves when making a cryptocurrency charitable contribution.

For more information, contact Associate Vice President Christa Jenkins at ccjenkins@mnu.edu or 913.971.3607.

Make your gift through our cryptocurrency partner.

In addition, please notify our Associate Vice President, Christa Jenkins, of your gift and intended designation via email at ccjenkins@mnu.edu or by phone at 913.971.3607.

Employer Matching

Many companies and corporate foundations encourage their employees’ philanthropic efforts by matching their contributions to non-profit organizations such as MidAmerica Nazarene University. Some companies will even match the donations made by retirees and/or spouses, gifts of volunteering, or offer payroll deduction. In most cases, MidAmerica receives dollar-for-dollar matches. But in some cases, the company’s match doubles or triples the employee’s gift. Use the search bar below to see if your gift is eligible for employer matching!
