The Pioneer Pledge

Peace of Mind for Your Future

Concern about paying back student loans is common. That’s why we provide the Pioneer Pledge, our loan repayment assistance program. If your income is modest after graduation, Pioneer Pledge assists with your educational loan repayments. Learn more on our financial aid pages.

A recent Forbes magazine article asserted, “If you, or the child you love, might choose a career that would make repayment so burdensome that it would curtail other early adulthood opportunities… you would be well-served to seek a college with a Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP).” Initially created to provide financial security after graduation to students interested in using their degrees in public service and other lower-paying positions, Pioneer Pledge helps MidAmerica Nazarene University graduates in all fields, should their income be less than expected, affecting their ability to repay student loans.
Sometimes students pursuing certain career fields know they may earn less in the first few years after graduation. Some expect to complete internships. Others going into ministry or other service careers are concerned about repaying debt. Pioneer Pledge lets them follow their educational and career passion, with peace of mind. Upon graduation, the program works directly with eligible MNU graduates to help repay their loans, either until they reach a point of financial stability, or their loans are repaid entirely.

The loan repayment assistance program covers:

  • Federal Direct Loans (subsidized and unsubsidized)
  • Parent Plus Loans
  • Private Loans originated through MNU’s Financial Aid Office
  • Up to $80,000 in total loans

Pioneer Pledge enables prospective students to attend their first-choice colleges without worry and provides a safety-net allowing them to pursue their desired career after graduation.

  • All MNU incoming traditional freshmen and eligible transfer students enrolled in the Pioneer Pledge program who have student loans Enroll at mylrap.org/MNU
  • Must graduate with a traditional undergraduate bachelor’s degree from MNU within 6 years
  • After graduation:
    • Must be employed an average of 30 hours/week and earn less than $50,000/year
    • Must work in the U.S. and cannot be working for family

Give Crypto

Why Do We Accept Cryptocurrency Donations?

MidAmerica Nazarene University Foundation recognizes the growing significance of cryptocurrency in today’s economy. Donors may find it beneficial to make cryptocurrency contributions and should consult their tax advisor regarding how these donations may fit into their tax strategy.

Why Donate Cryptocurrency?

For donors in the United States, the IRS has classified cryptocurrency as a form of property. This means that when you donate Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, such as the MNU Foundation, you may be required to pay capital gains tax on donated cryptocurrency and still be able to claim a deduction for your gift. Please consult your tax advisor for more information.

MidAmerica Nazarene University Foundation Gift Acceptance Requirements

In accordance with the MNU Foundation Gift Acceptance Policy, all contributions of cryptocurrency are immediately converted to cash upon receipt and cannot be refunded for any reason. While we are happy to honor requests for public anonymity, donors must identify themselves when making a cryptocurrency charitable contribution.

For more information, contact Associate Vice President Christa Jenkins at ccjenkins@mnu.edu or 913.971.3607.

Employer Matching

Many companies and corporate foundations encourage their employees’ philanthropic efforts by matching their contributions to non-profit organizations such as MidAmerica Nazarene University. Some companies will even match the donations made by retirees and/or spouses, gifts of volunteering, or offer payroll deduction. In most cases, MidAmerica receives dollar-for-dollar matches. But in some cases, the company’s match doubles or triples the employee’s gift. Use the search bar below to see if your gift is eligible for employer matching!
