Virtual Conferral of Degrees | June 6 2020 - 2PM CST
In-Person Commencement | Rescheduled for August 1, 2020 Now Canceled
Originally planned for May 1 & 2, but postponed due to pandemic, MNU Commencement Ceremonies to celebrate the Class of 2020 were rescheduled for August 1, 2020. We regret to announce that the ceremony has been canceled as of July 1, 2020.
Excerpt from President Spittal's letter sent to graduates, dated July 1, 2020 reads:
Unfortunately, a recent executive order issued by the Governor of Kansas to pull back on reopening requirements and with a rapid national increase in COVID-19 cases, the health and safety risks involved with commencement gathering of this size has increased rather than decreased as we had hoped. It is with heavy hearts and based on these complex issues, I want to inform you that the university has decided to cancel the August 1 commencement in the interest of the health and safety of all who would be involved in that day. Our primary responsibility is to do all we can to protect the health and safety of our faculty, staff and graduates and under the circumstances, this is the prudent decision.
Diplomas are ordered by the Registrar’s Office after final grades have been submitted, all requirements have been met, and the final degree has been awarded. Diplomas are mailed to graduates approximately 6-8 weeks after degree requirements have been met and degrees awarded. Diplomas are mailed to the address provided on the graduation application unless the student wishes to pick up the diploma up in the Registrar’s Office or request that the diploma be released to a friend or family member. Diploma pick up can be requested in writing at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Contact the Registrar’s Office at email@example.com or 913-971-3626 with questions regarding diplomas.

MNU Commencement and Nurses Pinning 2020 Cancellation
The decision to cancel in-person Commencement and Nurses Pinning is one that was given extensive consideration by personnel from all segments of the university. Opinions and suggestions from students and parents were considered. The decision was regrettable, but necessary in order to protect the health and safety of all constituents involved.
A university event of this type differs from a high school graduation in several ways. Specifically, attendees come from all over the world for these events at universities to a greater extent than they would for a high school graduation of all local students. Holding an in-person event had, among many concerns, the potential of 1) greater exposure to the virus; 2) travel plans needing to be made well in advance of the event. Many other aspects went into the decision, which while disappointing to all, was necessary.
Refunds of fees paid for graduation regalia, diplomas, diploma covers and any other items related to these ceremonies is not possible. The university incurred additional expense beyond the cost of these items to mail them to graduates. Additionally, the company providing the regalia will not accept returns.
By creating a video conferral of degrees and a nurses pinning, the university acknowledges the great achievements of our graduates. This video can be replayed for friends and family at a time that is convenient for the viewers. We worked diligently to make these videos meaningful to the best of our abilities and resources.
We wish our graduates all the best in their future endeavors.
