Alumni Spotlight: Yhoshua Ticum

The journey that led Rev. Yhoshua Ticum, class of 2019, to ministry and his recent ordination in the Church of the Nazarene has been blessed and orchestrated by God’s work in his life.

“My call to ministry was a gradual work of God’s grace in my life,” Yhoshua says. “There was not one specific and isolated moment when I felt a calling. Instead, after the many years of growing in the church, as people invested in me, encouraged me, and challenged me, I was able to identify God’s calling on my life.”

His experience at MNU gave him the confidence to respond to God’s calling and seek a full-time ministry.

After graduation, he served as an assistant chaplain at MNU for a year while also working at Central Church of the Nazarene (Lenexa) as technical arts director. In 2020 he became Central’s full-time young adult and creative arts pastor.

Yhoshua married Amanda (Lampley, 2018), who is an integral part of the ministry.

“She has been supportive, gracious, and encouraging throughout the years,” Yhoshua says. One thing that we have been intentional about is setting boundaries around what expectations we have of each other. We also do our best to communicate well.”

Amanda is a nurse, so although she is not always able to participate in events and other facets of the ministry, she is always invited to speak into the ministry as much as she is able.

“It truly is a partnership where good communication, mutual support, and gracious understanding are crucial,” Yhoshua adds.

As Yhoshua and Amanda walk out the calling on their lives, their goal is to be faithful.

“When we talk about the future, we say we must just take the next faithful step,”

While Yhoshua says he would love to teach college theology or ministry classes, he and Amanda will continue to see God’s will for their ministry and lives as they pursue His calling.
