MidAmerica Nazarene University’s Board of Trustees unanimously passed an extension of the relationship with its fifth president, Dr. David J. Spittal, during its annual meeting November 17.

Rev. Jim Bond, chair of the Board of Trustees characterized the annual meeting as engaging and encouraging as he offered comments on Spittal’s presidency.

Financially the university is very strong and enrollment is stable,” Bond said. “The Board of Trustees have great confidence in Dr. Spittal and we extended our relationship with him for another five years. We recognize that Dr. Spittal’s leadership has brought MNU to a good place. The future is very bright for the university.

PRESIDENT DAVID J. SPITTAL

Spittal assumed the presidency of MNU in February of 2012 after being president for 17 years at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina. During his 10 years at MNU, the university has achieved renewal of accreditation, celebrated its 50th anniversary and raised more than $65.7 million in funding for the $75 million Bright Futures campaign. Currently, the university is constructing the Cunningham Center, a 50,000 square foot building for student services and dining, as well as conference space. The building will open in spring 2022 and represents the dream of thousands of students and alumni who have called MNU home.

“I am humbled and honored to serve,” Spittal said. “I look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead for MNU.”
