As an English major at MNU, you’ll learn to write effectively by exploring the great works of literature and applying the techniques of the masters to your own original content in fiction, nonfiction, scriptwriting, and performing arts. The program combines a strong emphasis in British, American, and world literary traditions with the application of biblical semiotics (the study of meaning) to nurture skill at writing, creativity, and the ability to recognize “the signs of the times.”
The world is increasingly driven by narratives, not only as entertainment, but also as tools for communication and influence in marketing, politics, journalism, and cultural activism. By studying the universal language of Story, you’ll not only prepare yourself to engage the culture in many different contexts (novels, graphic arts, sermons, streaming videos, podcasts, vlogs, etc.), you’ll learn to recognize and integrate the meaning of Scripture’s “hidden treasures” in ways you haven’t imagined.
