Scholarships & Aid

Apply for Financial Aid

To maximize your financial aid opportunities and find out what type of aid you qualify for, keep these steps in mind:

More than 98% of MNU students receive financial aid in the form of grants, scholarships, loans, or work-study. Some awards are made based on financial need, others for academic merit or performance, and some for a combination of the two. We are confident you’ll find real value in your MNU education.

MNU School Code:
007032

You’ll want to complete your MNU Application for Admission as soon as possible. Both federal and state financial assistance require that you be accepted at MNU before we can finalize your financial aid.

Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa, and be sure to include the MNU school code: 007032.

To be considered for federal student aid for the 2025-2026 award year, you can complete a 2025-2026 FAFSA form between Dec. 2, 2024 and June 30, 2026.

  • FSA Account: A Federal Student Aid (FSA) Account is a username and password that you must create in order to log into the U.S. Department of Education’s website for financial aid, https://studentaid.gov/. Your FSA Account identifies you as someone who has the right to access your personal information, is used to sign legally binding documents electronically, and has the same legal status as a written signature. Each FSA Account user must have a unique email address. You should use an email address you will always be able to access. To establish your username and password, go to FSA Account.

The FAFSA application is filed with income and tax information from two years ago (the prior-prior year). For example: The 2024-2025 FAFSA will collect information from the 2022 tax year.

The 2025-2026 FAFSA will collect information from the 2023 tax year.

Your income information will be automatically transferred from the IRS using the FUTURE Act Direct Data Exchange (FA-DDX) upon providing your consent on the FAFSA form.

Do you have a special circumstance that could affect your federal aid eligibility?

If there has been a change to your financial situation since you filed your current FAFSA, or since you filed the tax return required on your current FAFSA, please contact the Student Financial Aid Services Office.

Do you have an unusual circumstance that would qualify you for an adjustment to your dependency status?

Review the link below and then contact the Student Financial Aid Services Office if you think you might qualify.

Federal Aid

Federal Financial Aid is made up of funds that come from the United States government. This aid includes grants and loans as well as work study programs. Many of these programs are based on your family income.

Pell Grants are awarded to traditional undergraduate  students seeking their first bachelor’s degree who demonstrate high financial need.

  • A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid.
  • The maximum Federal Pell Grant for the 2024-2025 award year (July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025) is $7395.
  • The amount of your award depends on your financial need, costs to attend school, status as a full-time or part-time student, and plans to attend school for a full academic year or less.

Awarded to Pell recipients with high financial need. The Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) system works differently from the Federal Pell Grant Program, which provides funds to every eligible student. Since MNU receives a limited amount of FSEOG funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Federal Student Aid, complete your FAFSA early so your eligibility can be determined before funds are exhausted.

  • Annual FSEOG awards range from $500 to $1000
  • MNU students must be enrolled at least 1/2 time to be eligible for FSEOG.
  • MNU students must also be Pell Grant eligible.

Direct Subsidized Loans are low-interest loans for undergraduate students that help pay for the cost of an MNU education. The lender is the U.S. Department of Education. These loans are available to students who demonstrate need on the FAFSA.

Students must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible for this loan.

Interest is paid by the Department of Education while the student is enrolled on a half-time or greater basis. The maximum award offered is based on the results of your FAFSA, the cumulative credit hours completed and subject to overall borrowing limits. Repayment begins six months after student graduation or when a student falls below half-time status.

Unsubsidized loans are available to students regardless of financial need. A student must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible. Unsubsidized loan interest is calculated and begins accruing when the loan is disbursed to the student’s MNU account. Eligible students who have completed the FAFSA for the appropriate academic year are automatically evaluated for the Unsubsidized Stafford Loan.

Please note: If you are a dependent student whose parent was DENIED a Parent PLUS Loan (described below), you may be eligible for additional unsubsidized loan amounts. For more information on Direct Unsubsidized Loans, go to Federal Student Aid.

Parent PLUS loans are federal loans that parents of dependent undergraduate students, regardless of income, can use to help pay education expenses.

  • The U.S. Department of Education is the lender.
  • The borrower must have good credit history.
  • The maximum loan amount is the student’s cost of attendance, determined by the school, minus any other financial aid received.

Repayment is generally required once the loan is fully disbursed but parents may request in-school forbearance to delay the start of payments. To receive a PLUS loan, the student must be enrolled at half-time or greater and a FAFSA is required to be on file.

Grad PLUS Loans are available to graduate students.

To apply for a PLUS loan, follow this link: https://studentaid.gov/plus-app/

Federal work study jobs are part-time jobs for traditional undergraduate students with financial need. A limited number of such jobs are available. These jobs allow you to earn money to help pay education expenses.

  • Provides part-time employment while you are enrolled in school.
  • Based upon financial need.
  • Your federal work study does not appear as a credit toward your college expenses on your financial aid letter since the amount must be earned while you are enrolled. You must elect to apply the funds earned toward your educational expenses.

At MNU you may work part-time on-campus or part-time as a tutor in an approved off-campus program. Students who receive the Federal Work Study aid will receive that aid in the form of a paycheck, which will be earned as their employment and timesheets are completed throughout the semester. To be considered for Federal Work Study, students must complete the FAFSA each year and have demonstrated financial need.

Requirements for Participation:

  • Complete an On-Campus Employment Application
  • Maintain at least half-time enrollment status each semester
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress

Students may be required to go through an interview process to be hired for a position, and eligibility for the program does not guarantee that a student will be hired.

Contact Student Financial Aid Services to see if you qualify for the FWS program and for on-campus job possibilities.

State Aid

State Financial Aid are funds that come from the state of Kansas.

This aid includes loans and scholarships for Kansas residents. Many of these programs are based on your family income. Residents of Kansas who attend MNU may be eligible to receive funds from the state.

More details can be found at Kansas Regents website.

Awarded to traditional undergraduate students seeking their first bachelor’s who are Kansas residents and attend a Kansas private college or university. These grants are based upon financial need and early application. Apply early as the FAFSA application priority deadline for the Kansas Comprehensive Grant is April 1.

The Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship is a merit-based service obligation scholarship program that provides financial assistance to both students pursuing bachelor’s degree programs and currently licensed teachers pursuing endorsement in hard-to-fill disciplines or master’s degrees in hard-to-fill disciplines or either group planning to teach in an underserved geographic area. Recipients sign agreements to teach one year for each year of scholarship support in Kansas.

Online Information

The Kansas Nursing Service Scholarship requires an obligation to practice as a LPN or RN in Kansas and work for a sponsor. A sponsor means any adult care home, psychiatric hospital, medical care facility, home health agency, local health department or any state agency, which employs LPNs or RNs, licensed by the State of Kansas. The sponsor will provide partial scholarship funding and provide employment upon licensure of the recipient. Recipients sign agreements to practice nursing for a sponsor one year for each year of scholarship support. Online Form Information

The Kansas State Scholarship is designed to assist traditional undergraduate students based on financial need. Recipients must be in the top 20-40% of Kansas high school graduates who are designated as state scholars during the senior year of high school. Completion of the Kansas Scholars Curriculum is one component of the scholarship requirements.

A private loan (alternative loan) should be considered to meet out of pocket expenses only when there is no other viable federal student loan option available. Private loans are credit based, and often require a creditworthy co-signer when borrowed in the student’s name. Parents can apply for a loan in their name, but should compare costs and loan terms to the Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). MidAmerica Nazarene University cannot recommend specific lenders. Borrowers should research the market to find the best loan available for their needs. To assist in your search, we have gathered a historical list of lenders other MNU students have chosen. This list can be used to compare terms and conditions of the lenders included on the list and provides links to the application process. You may use other lenders who offer private educational loans not on our list. We encourage you to learn more about federal-vs-private before you borrow.

Continuation and re-enrollment in the payment plan is dependent upon satisfactory performance of the agreed-upon payment obligations, as well as satisfactory academic progress, and may be discontinued at the sole discretion of the University at any time.

The amount due for each payment may vary if charges are added to the account by the student or the student makes changes to their course registration. An email reminder will be sent five days before the due date of your next installment payment and then also as an acknowledgment, each time a payment is made. Payments not received by midnight on the due date will be assessed a late fee of $30 or 1.25% of the balance due on that date.
